Kara Holm is (sadly) not a billionaire. She is a recovering startup founder and rehabilitated integrated casino resort marketing consultant. She holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the University of King’s College (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and is the Chief Philanthropy Officer at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
She is the creator of www.upstarts.international, a platform dedicated to founders, the newsletter www.upstarts.substack.com, and www.karaholm.com, a now very-occasional business blog focused on loyalty and engagement. Kara’s writing has been published in The Globe and Mail, The Hub, and Canadian Gaming Business. She has presented at conferences in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Her book about startups has the working title: Upstarts: Founders, Failure, and the Startup Paradox.
Kara lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with her family where she enjoys wine, food, travel, art, music, knitting, and books.
